What ThorOdinson said. Also: 616 isn’t THE Marvel Universe, it’s a universe IN Marvel’s multiverse. Not a long story, by the way, changing the future creates alternate timelines, thus alternate universes and stories that don’t fit original continuity warrant new universes.
The Thanos Imperative is not where to start if you want to learn about the guardians, if you have to ignore the individual characters’ backstories and if you also focus on the second iteration of the guardians, you would want to start with Annihilation.

Drax dead, phyla dead, star lord dead, nova dead, I Love Guardians of the galaxy. if james gunn makes this like a parody of a comic book adaptation … some body should shoot this guy right now. he is not fit to helm this project. the story will prove to be too vast for him.
